Biography

John has worked as a water specialist for the upstream oil and gas industry for over thirty years. He is currently a Principle Technologist for Worley, Advisian. Prior, he was the Director of R&D for CETCO Energy Services, a specialized water treatment services company in the oil and gas industry. He managed the testing laboratory and flow loop, provided on-site sampling and analysis services and troubleshooting of complex produced water problems. In 2010 he retired from Royal Dutch Shell where he worked for 21 years and was the Global Upstream Water Subject Matter Expert. During his career at Shell he was an expat in four countries and provided technical support in over 30 countries. He was involved in deep water, water flood, shale oil, heavy oil, chemical EOR, and Coal Bed Methane. He started his career as a water treatment engineer with Westvaco Paper Company.
He has recently authored a book, Produced Water. Until recently he was the President and Managing Director of the Produced Water Society. He remains on their Board of Directors. He is an associate editor of Oil and Gas Facilities, and has served on the Board of Directors of Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is the designated instructor for SPE courses. He earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University.
